It’s every artist’s weakest link: selling your self. At least it’s mine. When I was younger I saw myself as an entrepreneur. I imagined myself owning a large downtown sky scrapper someday. When I felt a pull towards filmmaking and being an “artist” for a living, I let too much of that business mindset go. Over the 10 plus years I’ve been a professional creative I’ve had to relearn what it means to run my own business, and in that effort I’m constantly looking for things that make the business side of being an artist easier. Enter, Thumbtack.
Full discloser: This is new territory for me, and I’m interested to see where it leads. I dig the idea of a polished, professional Craig’s List type service, and I love that as a service provider I can create a whole Creative Director profile with links to videos and the like. I don’t know if it will revolutionize the way I do business, but I’m interested to see what opportunities it will provide.
